UFC #53 Heavy Hitters - Andrei Arlovski vs Justin Eilers
Arlovski, Torn ACL Stops Eilers Quickly!
By www.andreiarlovski.com staff writer, Juan C. Ayllon
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ, June 4, 2005 – One technique fighters sometimes use to overcome a superior boxer is to rush and throw him off balance, hitting him before he has a chance to regroup and get set. Current WBO Heavyweight Champ, Lamon Brewster did this in stopping highly favored Andrew Golota in one round in Chicago in May. However, one time heavyweight hopeful Michael Grant also tried this and failed miserably when taking on Lennox Lewis in April 2000, getting flattened in two rounds.
This strategy apparently made sense to Justin Eilers. After all, he was a former college middle linebacker accustomed to rushing quarterbacks. Across the Octagon stood the most feared striker in the UFC, the 6’ 4” and 240 lb. Andrei Arlovski.
Unfortunately for Eilers, like Lennox Lewis against versus before him, Arlovski possessed superior footwork and a stellar jab. As a result, at the “UFC 53-Heavy Hitters” show at Boardwalk Hall, Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski made short work of challenger Justin Eilers, stopping him in the first round.
True to formula, Eilers charged out in the opening moments throwing left hooks with ill intent. Using superior reach and footwork, the chiseled 6’ 4” Arlovski negated his charge and quickly bloodied his antagonist with jarring jabs, making it clear that Eiler’s destruction was eminent. Bleeding and pummeled, Eilers attempted a “Hail Mary” of a right hand. However, at this crucial moment, the ACL ligaments in his right knee failed him, and he collapsed in a heap.
Ever the finisher, Arlovski pounced, but was quickly turned away by the referee, who stopped the bout at 4:10 into round one.

UFC #51 Super Saturday - Andrei Arlovski vs Tim Sylvia
By www.andreiarlovski.com staff writer, Juan C. Ayllon
On February 5, 2005 in UFC 51, At 6’4” and 237 lbs., Andrei Arlovski took on betting favorite Tim Sylvia for the Interim Heavyweight Championship who, at 6’8” and 265 lbs., sported a four to five inch reach advantage and was said to pack the deadlier punch.
Bouncing on his toes, Arlovski glared at Sylvia, who smiled and nodded as the ref said, “Let’s get it on!” Arlovski opened with a whipping left kick to the outside of Sylvia’s right thigh, circled back to his left and back in with a low kick to the right knee. Ducking under a pawing left of Sylvia’s, the fleet footed Arlovski circled back and out to his right, as Sylvia stalked. The former soccer player whipped in another punishing left low kick to the inside of Sylvia’s lower leg and stepped back. Bouncing on his toes, Arlovski speared him with a jab, ducked under a stiff left from Sylvia, and circled back and to his left. Sylvia landed a low kick to the outside of Arlovski’s lower leg. Moments later, Arlovski banged in a smacking left kick to Sylvia’s left inner knee, bounced back and to his right. Resetting, he waited as Sylvia stepped forward.
Raising his right hand to cover the right side of his head, Sylvia stepped in behind a stiff jab. In a flash, Arlovski slipped the punch, whipped in a left jab to the chin and a searing right cross just behind and over Sylvia’s left. It crashed on Sylvia’s jaw with frightening impact. Turned sideways from the electrifying blow, Sylvia landed hard on his backside and fell to his back, his legs instinctively up in the air.
Sensing the kill, Arlovski pounced into Sylvia’s guard, where he landed a quick right on Sylvia’s shoulder, a glancing right and was momentarily repelled by Sylvia’s thrashing hips and legs. Shoving the legs to his right, he drove another right over the top that fell short and another right to the chest while the elongated Sylvia kept protecting arms extended and kicked for survival.
As Sylvia’s left heel crashed down on his right shoulder, Arlovski trapped Sylvia’s right foot under his right armpit and, with his right forearm hooked under the calf, fell backwards. Extending his left leg across Sylvia’s body, he leaned back and cranked on the ankle. In an attempt to defend, Sylvia swiped Arlovski’s leg off and, as Arlovski rolled to the right with his Sylvia’s leg locked firm, he attempted to grab Arlovski’s leg. However, assisting with his left hand, Arlovski really sank in the heel hook with his right and, rocking backwards, wrenched it hard. Moments later, Sylvia tapped out with 4:13 left to go in round one.
With that, Andrei Arlovski became the Ultimate Fighting Championships Interim Heavyweight Champion, as the reigning UFC Heavyweight Champ, Frank Mir, was sidelined in a car accident in 2004.

UFC #47 It's On! - Andrei Arlovski vs Wesley Correira
Andrei Arlovski Stops Cabbage!
By www.andreiarlovski.com staff writer, Juan C. Ayllon
LAS VEGAS, April 2, 2004 – Andrei Arlovski shocked all in the manner in which he dispatched iron jawed Wesley “Cabbage” Correira, stopping him in the second round.
After touching gloves, 6’ 4”Arlovski, weighing 241 lbs., at 7-3, bounced on his toes and landed a low left leg kick to the left inner thigh of Cabbage Correira, 265 lbs., 20-4, who at 6’ 2” looked a good two or three inches shorter. Bouncing back and to his right as Correira stalked, Arlovski reset, shifted to his right, and landed another left leg kick, this one to Correira’s left knee, then circled back and to his right again. He pumped his left fist, then circled to his right, as Correira pivoted to face him.
Shifting back and forth, Arlovski bounded in, turning Cabbage with a right to Cabbage’s jaw, a right to the upper ribs and a glancing right to the chest.
Regrouping, Cabbage squared up with Arlovski, who was poised for another strike. Moments later, he whipped in a roundhouse right kick to the outside of Cabbage’s left knee. Several seconds later, he grazed with the left jab and landed a crisp right to Correira’s head, then retreated as an angered Correira strode after him.
Arlovski bounced on his toes to his left, then to his right. He pounced with a lead right to Correira’s head, then circled back and to his right on his toes, as Correira pursued, trying to cut him off. Arlovski shifted to his right, flashed in another lead right and ducked to his right under a counter left hook. He threw a follow up right that missed, as Cabbage stepped back. Arlovski bounced on his toes, glided to his right, bounced on his toes, and glided to his right as Cabbage pivoted to face him at rings center.
Suddenly, Arlovski lashed out with a quick left jab-right cross combination, the right landing near Cabbage’s shoulder. Cabbage took a few backwards steps, reset and slowly marched forward as Arlovski waited, knees bent and ready to spring at rings center. Bouncing on his toes, he blocked a left jab thrown by Cabbage. He whipped in another left low kick to the inside of Cabbage’s left knee, bounced once or twice, and glided to his right as Cabbage advanced. He pounced with another lead right, this one falling short as Cabbage stepped backwards to avoid the incoming. Another right landed on Cabbage’s head as he retreated to the fence.
Cabbage resumed stalking Arlovski, who retreated to ring’s center, knees bent and spread wide. He threw a quick right that was blocked by Cabbage’s left glove. Then, Cabbage stalked forward to the Octagon’s center, as Arlovski circled to his right until he was 180 degrees from where he started. He stepped in behind a ponderous left jab to Cabbage’s head, knocking him back a half step.
Arlovski bounced on his toes several times, glided to his right, paused, bounced on his toes, and glided again. Cabbage missed with a quick jab. Arlovski spryly bounced back and to his right. Then, he threw a short jab and a right that appeared to glance high on Cabbage’s chest. Up on his toes, Arlovski feinted with his right shoulder, drew a jab that fell short from Cabbage, and stepped out of the way of a roundhouse left kick to the knee from Cabbage.
He slapped in a quick left kick to the inside of Cabbage’s left knee, speared with the jab and banged in a hard, overhand right high on Cabbage’s side. Advancing, he cracked with a follow up right to the side of the head, and a pair of rights to the jaw. Stepping back, he landed a hard left-right combination. Smiling, Correira strode forward as Arlovski retreated back and to his right.
That smile disappeared moments later as Arlovski threw a jab that fell short and a jolting right that buckled his knees and nearly dropped him. Arlovski threw another right that fell short and a stiff left that jarred Cabbage’s chin. Arlovski pumped a jab that fell short and whipped in a roundhouse left kick to Cabbage’s knee. Arlovski retreated to rings center and, again, circled to his right. He bent his knees thrice—as if to feint punches, glided to his right, reset, pumped the air with a jab that was maybe a foot and half short, stepped back and to his right, out of the way of a left roundhouse kick to the knee.
Resetting, he feinted a punch, took two short steps forward, and snapped a low left kick to Cabbage’s left knee. He shifted back and forth, pumped a range finding jab, and bounced back and to his right, turning Cabbage yet again.
Cabbage threw a left jab to the chest that appeared to fall short. Turning Cabbage again, he circled to his right about five feet and whipped in a left kick to Cabbage’s knee, jabbed to the left side of Cabbage’s head, and cracked in a jarring right backed Cabbage up, and another, driving Cabbage back to the fence. He bounced a stiff left hook off Cabbage’s head and unleashed a fierce flurry as Cabbage tried to cover, his back on the fence. He jarred with a right uppercut and bounced another right off Correira’s forehead.
Cabbage swung back fiercely with both fists. Arlovski finished with a one-two, then retreated to rings center. However, he advanced and Cabbage stepped back, bleeding from his left ear area. Arlovski whipped in another left kick to Cabbage’s inner left knee, which Cabbage, to his credit, checked by raising his knee. Arlovski whipped in another similar leg shot, this one unchecked. Cabbage raised his left leg in anticipation of another one, as his corner was heard to yell, “Check the kick!” Cabbage missed with a left hook he threw, as Arlovski bounded back and to his right. Cabbage landed a glancing roundhouse right to Arlovski’s left thigh.
Bouncing on his toes, Arlovski measured with a left jab, then another two. He slapped in a left leg kick, then stepped in with a jarring right to Cabbage’s head. A left, a vicious overhand right, a left, a right uppercut, and a left leg kick to the jaw. Falling backwards off balance, Arlovski was pursued by Cabbage. Cabbage attempted to grasp Arlovski’s head—but Arlovski slipped out—as a follow up knee to the head missed. Arlovski bounced to his right as Cabbage missed with a single left hook.
Retreating to the center of the Octagon, he waited, then exploded with a hard right to the head, a left, another right, a jarring right uppercut, an overhand right, and a left knee that caught Cabbage’s right shoulder and part of his head as Cabbage bounced off the fence. He bounced another left and right off Cabbage’s head. Then circled to his right as Cabbage slid to his right and towards rings center.
Cabbage fell short with a left hook. Arlovski speared with a left jab that fell short. Cabbage threw a left jab, which Arlovski ducked under and slid out a good five feet to his right along the fence, then came back to rings center, as Cabbage plodded behind him. Arlovski pumped a jab, then shifted to his right. He whipped in a left leg kick to Cabbage’s left knee, and stepped back quickly as Cabbage poised to pounce.
Arlovski stepped back and to his right and reset. He bounced on his toes, slid to his right and reset again. He shifted his head side to side, strode several steps forward, and shifted back and to his right. He easily blocked a left from Cabbage. Arlovski stepped in behind a stiff jab and missed with a looping right, as Cabbage tried to counter. The horn signaled the end of round one moments later.
Round # 2
Referee Mario Yamasaki cleared up excessive ice in Cabbage’s corner before starting off round two.
Arlovski bounced on his knees and slid to his right as Cabbage stalked. Arlovski whipped in another left leg kick to Cabbage’s left knee. Cabbage landed a glancing right leg kick to Arlovski’s left outer thigh. He missed with a left hook shortly thereafter. Bobbing slightly, Arlovski advanced as Cabbage pumped the air with half jabs. Arlovski slapped in another left leg kick to Cabbage’s left leg. Cabbage missed with a lead left hook. Cabbage missed with a left jab, then a right as he pressed forward and Arlovski retreated.
Arlovski pounced with a lead right and left to the head, then another right and a left kick to the body. Retreating to the fence and covering, Cabbage caught a glancing left hook to the head. A right followed. Placing his left palm on Cabbage’s head, Arlovski threw a heavy right, then a left and a right.
Cabbage countered with his own left. Both fighters threw hard with both fists blazing. A jarring straight left bounced off Cabbage’s jaw, turning him from the force of the blow. a pair of rights slammed into Cabbage’s face, causing him to close his eyes in pain momentarily. A follow up right glanced and—like that—Cabbage reset as another scorching right, a left and another right slammed in. An uppercut bounced in as Cabbage clinched. Arlovski sprung free, firing a lead right as he stepped back.
Amazingly, Cabbage stalked forward, cornering Arlovski on the fence. Arlovski glided to his left, planted, then glided to his right, keeping Cabbage turning. He jabbed and bounced a thudding right to Cabbage’s head, then a jarring left uppercut that dropped Cabbage hard on his backside. His momentum carried him onto his back, then his shoulders, his hips and his legs overhead. As Arlovski sought to follow up, Referee Yamasaki intervened and stopped the bout at 1:15 into the second round.

UFC #44 Undisputed - Andrei Arlovski vs Vladimir Matyushenko
Andrei “The Pit Bull” Arlovski vs. Vladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko
By www.andreiarlovski.com staff writer, Juan C. Ayllon
LAS VEGAS, September 26, 2003 – Andrei “The Pit Bull” Arlovski wowed fans attending UFC 44 at Mandalay Bay and strengthened his case for a shot at the UFC Heavyweight Championship immeasurably with a devastating knockout victory over rugged Vitali “The Janitor” Matyushenko.
Moments into the first round, Matyushenko missed with a left jab, caught a right to the head, and knocked Arlovski back two steps with a stiff right of his own. Circling back to his right, Arlovski thrust his hips forward, spread his feet back in a sprawl and pushed down on Matyushenko, who attempted a takedown. Grappling, Matyushenko pushed Arlovski off with his left and missed with his right as Arlovski slipped to the ground. Bouncing up quickly, Arlovski swung and missed with a left hook as Matyushenko pulled short a right kick attempt and stepped out of harms way.
Circling back to his left, Arlovski momentarily locked up with Matyushenko as he charged back in. Matyushenko missed with a right over the top; Arlovski missed with a counter right as Matyushenko pulled back. Arlovski feinted a right uppercut. Matyushenko stepped back to his right and circled to his left and forward.
Matyushenko measured with his left twice, stepped in with a jab and dodged a counter right by Andrei. He landed a looping, overhand right high on Arlovski’s head and got out of the way of an Arlovski counter right to the body. He dived forward and grabbed at Arlovski’s thighs as Arlovski sprawled and repelled his attempt.
Standing him up, Arlovski landed a chopping, short right hook to the head that knocked Matyushenko back and down. Pouncing, he bounced a pair of rights off his shoulder. Kneeling between Matyushenko’s guard, he rained down eight consecutive rights, a pair of lefts, and a right-left-right combination.
Rolling to his left, Matyushenko got both arms underneath him, pushed off and drove low into Arlovski. Grabbing him high behind both thighs, Matyushenko tried unsuccessfully to take him down. However, Arlosvki sprawled his legs back and wide while grasping Matyushenko under the left armpit with his right and maintained a guillotine hold with his left.
Matyushenko escaped the guillotine by dropping on his back and held tight, his head on Arlovski’s chest. On all fours above him, Arlovski peppered with three lefts to the head, maintained his balance with his right, and peppered with three more lefts. Moments later, clutching with his right arm, Matyushenko rotated his body to his right, pushed off the mat with his right and stood up! He pushed off Arlovski with a right uppercut. Moments later, he attempted another takedown, was thwarted with yet another sprawl, and missed with a left hook over the top as he reset. Matyushenko stepped in and missed with a looping right and pulled away from a right hook counter that just missed. Arlovski pumped a left jab. Matyushenko fell short with a left jab and grazed with another jab.
Arlovski missed with a right over the top and slipped to the mat. Immediately, Matyushenko double hooked over the back of both Arlovski’s arms and kneed Arlovski to the head, knocking him back to the chain link fence. Fortunately, Arlovski saw the knee coming and recoiled enough to minimize the impact. Arlovski moved to his right as Matyushenko slammed into the fence. Referee Larry Landless intervened and deducted one point, as this was ruled an illegal knee to the head of a downed opponent.
Resuming the action, Matyushenko caught a right to the chest as he landed a left leg kick to Arlovski’s left inner thigh, double hooked Arlovski underneath in an attempt to take him down, but was overpowered and pushed to his back. Mounted, Matyushenko absorbed a left-right-left combination to the head. Nine rights to the side of the head followed, then a right and a right-left-right combination as he rolled to his stomach and got his legs under him.
Arlovski rose and stepped over, and allowed him to stand up unopposed. Apparently, he favored a striking game where he could put his body into his punches.
Payoff wasn’t long in coming.
Arlovski knocked him back with a jarring right to the chest; Matyushenko dropped in a hard right front kick to the chest. Arlovski smacked Matyushenko’s head with a stiff right and, stepping to his right, dropped him hard with a concussive right uppercut. Bending at the waist over his downed opponent, he managed a quick, chopping right to the head for good measure before Referee Landless corralled him off with 3:00 left in round one.

Arlovski whipped in a low, roundhouse kick to the outside of the left leg; Freeman raised his leg high to negate the blow and caught a partial right to the head. Arlovski landed a left kick to the inside of Freeman’s left shin and followed with a pile driver of a right to the left cheek that landed with a smack that could be heard round the ring. Arlovski landed a crushing right just behind a quick left jab just behind the left ear that buckled him over. A right uppercut stood him up straight and a final, looping right hand crumpled him hard to the ground, leaving him flinching and instinctively pawing the air to protect himself as the Referee Larry Landless jumped in to stop the carnage with 3:41 left in the first round.
