Andrei Arlovski was born on February 4, 1979 in Minsk, Belarus. Athletic from the get go, Arlovski was an avid soccer player in his youth.
At age 18, Andrei began training at age 18 in Sambo, while preparing for a career with the Minsk, Belarus police force. Developed by the Russian military, Sambo is a grappling art, a hybrid of sorts between Jiu-Jitsu and Judo. At age 19, Arlovski was runner up in the Sambo world championships; at age 20, he won the Sambo Championships, and repeated this feat at age 21, where he was also awarded the title, Sambo Master.
Not content in merely mastering a grappling art, Arlovski turned to Mixed Martial Arts and began training for kickboxing with former world champion kick boxer Dimitri Stepanov and K-1 Champion Andrei Dudko.
On April 9, 1999, Arlovski lost in the M-1 MFC –World Championship 1999 to Viacheslay Datsik by knockout. This was followed by two wins at the M-1 MFC European Championships 2000 against Michael Tielrooy (Guillotine Choke) and Roman Zentsov (TKO Strikes).

Arlovski came to the U.S. to train for the UFC when he was 22 years old. Alex Andriovski and Alexi Dubovik brought fighters, Andre Dudko and Dimitri Stepanov. Andre Dudko was a K-1 Champ in 2002 and Dimitri Stepanov was a world champion and Andrei’s mentor.

He lost his next 2 fights to in UFC #32 to Ricco Rodriguez and another to in UFC #36 to Pedro Rizzo. His back was against the wall, as he had only one more fight on his contract.”
In UFC # 32 Coming through in a clutch, Arlovski knocked out tough Englishman Ian “The Machine” Freeman in devastating fashion at UFC 40 in 2002.
At UFC #47 in 2004, Andrei dramatically stopped Wesley “Cabbage” Correira by TKO.
Following the bout, Andrei traveled back to Russia where he had a donor bone grafted into his hand. Arlovski’s hand troubles alleviated, trouble with his right shoulder flared up.
In UFC #51, he beat Tim Sylvia, on December 23rd in Vegas with a devastating right hand to the jaw and a ankle lock. Andrei Arlovski, the new interim heavweight champion of the world.
In UFC #53, Arlovski went on to dominate and TKO Justin Eilers at UFC 53 on June 4, 2005.
In UFC #55, he maintained hold of his title by knocking out Paul "The Headhunter" Buentello in 15 seconds.
